Campus Safety Month shines light on college dangers
From WCSH Channel 6:
GORHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A campaign to raise awareness about the danger of sexual assault on college campuses is giving students tips to help stay safe.
September is Campus Safety Awareness Month. It's a big problem, as evidenced by a report from the National Institute of Justice that found one in four college women will be raped or sexually assaulted. However, less than 5 percent of those cases are reported to law enforcement.
NEWS CENTER's Lee Nelson recently discussed the steps students can take to protect themselves with Cyndi Amato, Executive Director at Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine, and Clara Porter from the University of Southern Maine's Campus Safety Project.
